Abstract
1318570 Chromatographic separation of polyelectrolytes EXPLOATERINGS AB TBF 18 Dec 1970 [22 Dec 1969] 60337/70 Heading B1X [Also in Division C3] Polyelectrolytes such as proteins, peptides, nucleic acid and nucleotides are chromatographically separated using an organic, amphoteric, hydrophillic adsorbent which contains basic nitrogen containing groups and either carboxylate or sulphonate groups. The adsorbent is the product of a coupling reaction between a amino acid (or derivative), e.g. alanine, arginone or glycine and an hydroxy containing hydrophillic polymer, e.g. agar, agarose, cellulose or cross-linked dextran. The amino acids can be joined to the polymers using cyanogen bromide, or e.g. vinyl acetate and vinyl pyridine can be co-polymerised with divinyl sulphon or divinyl benzene. The acetyl groups are then hydrolised and the polymer reacted with halogen carboxylic acids. The chromatographic effluent may be recycled.
