Abstract

Jacks.-A portable air-pump for pneumatic tyres is combined with a pneumatic jacking-device for raising the wheel; the air compressed in the jacking operation may be afterwards used to inflate the tyre. The device shown comprises a horizontal pump cylinder mounted in a casing having supports 3 and an extension 8 to which is pivoted a lever 6 connected to the piston rod and formed with a socket for the reception of a detachable hand or foot lever 10. The casing is also formed with a socket for the reception of a vertical cylinder 11 containing a cup leather piston the rod of which is secured to an axle support 14 above the cylinder, this support being formed with extensions carrying a second support 20 for low-built axles on one side of the piston and a ratchet 21 engaging a spring pawl 22 on the other. Air is supplied to the vertical jacking-cylinder from the pump cylinder through a passage 15 having a non-return valve 16. A flexible tube 17 is connected to this passage between the valve and the cylinder 11, and is provided with a handoperated cock or an automatic valve whereby connexion may be made with the tyre valve for inflation.
