Abstract

1316480 Brazing SOC ANON DES USINES CHAUSSON 1 Dec 1970 [1 Dec 1969] 57126/70 Heading B3K In joining two aluminium containing parts, one part is deformed to create groove spaced protrusions extending beyond the normal boundary of the engaging area of the other part, the parts are pressed together, one within the other, to engage the protrusions with the normal boundary of the other part with sufficient friction to retain the parts in position and the engaged parts are brazed with an aluminium alloy. A portion of a tube 1 is provided with milled grooves 7 and the grooved part is arranged in a plain hole 5 in a plate 4 coated with aluminium-2 to 12% silicon alloy (shown on the lefthand side of the tube) and the assembly is then dipped in a molten salt bath or after fluxing is heated in an oven when the molten alloy is drawn by capillarity into the grooves and forms a fillet 8 (shown on the right-hand side of the tube). In a modification, the hole is grooved and the tube is plain, the brazing alloy being provided on the underside of the plate. In another modification, the plate is shaped to form a depression about the plain hole therein, the tube is grooved and both sides of the plate are coated with brazing alloy. The assemblies may form parts of oil or water vehicle radiators and the brazing alloy may be provided as a wire or in the salt bath.
