Abstract
1315765 Mining machines LEE-NORSE CO 11 Oct 1971 [21 Dec 1970] 47231/71 Heading E1F A mining head for a mineral-mining machine comprises suport means 44, rotatable cutter pick-mounting drums 34, 34a mounted on the support means 44, an end cutter drum 36 at each end of the head, said drums 36 being axially movable of the rest of the head by piston cylinder means situated by the controlled supply of pressurised fluid thereto. The drums 34, 34a which are driven by a clutchless drive, are fixed against axial movement. Each drum 36 is telescopically housed in the adjacent one of the drums 34, 34a to be driven thereby through a splined connection 70, 72. The piston cylinder means involve two pistons 78 independently housed in a cylinder bore 76 in the support means one either side of a check valve 96 mounted in the bore. The valve 96 allows under certain conditions of supply of pressurised fluid inward movement of the pistons.
