Abstract

1315454 Locks HUWIL-WERKE HUGO WILLACH & SOHNE 26 May 1971 [12 Nov 1970] 17354/71 Heading E2A A lock mechanism operable by a key with coded magnets comprises two superimposed portions 1, 3 having detent body chambers formed of locking chambers 2 and opposite chambers 4, the number of opposite chambers exceeding by one the number of locking chambers, each detent body chamber receives a spherical, magnetizable detent body 6 and during locking and unlocking of the lock mechanism is displaceable through a channel joining one opposite chamber to the neighbouring opposite chamber. The chambers 2 and 4 are formed respectively in the portions 1 and 3. The portion 1 is integral with a bolt 10 which is engageable with a pin 11. A key 7 with magnets 8 positioned to correspond with the positions of the connecting channels 5 is applied to the portion 1 to move the detent bodies 6 which are made of magnetizable materials into the connecting channels to allow the portion 1 to move the bolt 10 into the locking or unlocking position. To prevent unauthorised release of the lock the walls of the chambers 2 have projections and additionally or alternatively the connecting channels 5a adjacent thereto have projections. A spring loaded ball catch retains the portion 1 in locking or unlocking position. In a modification a bolt 15, Fig. 7 is spring urged to latching position and is locked by a shoulder 14 on the portion 1 engaging a shoulder on the bolt. The bolt is withdrawn by applying the key to move the portion 1 to disengage the shoulder on the bolt and by applying pressure to the bolt handle 19. In a further embodiment the detent body chambers are superimposed and are in rows. In a further embodiment the detent bodies 6 move in chambers in two superimposed plates 20, 21, in a shell 22. The plate 20 is immovable in the shell and the plate 21 is movable against the action of a spring 26 relatively to the plate 20 only when the magnetic key is applied, Fig. 11 shows the plate 20 in locking position engaging a hook 27.
