Abstract
1315165 Straddle carriers H TAX 15 Oct 1970 [15 Oct 1969] 49000/70 Heading B8H A gantry lift truck for containers which can stack three containers vertically comprises two parallel interconnected lateral frames each consisting of columns 14, 16 connected by longitudinal beams 18, 20, Fig. 1, between which frames a container-holding frame 22 is mounted. In operation the columns 14, 16 of both frames are raised in stationary guide members 32 mounted on the beams 20 by means of a ram 34 having a pulley 42 on its rod 40 around which a chain 44 passes and through the column 14 to a pulley 50 and is secured at 52. The frame 22 and container 26 is then raised along the elevated columns 14, 16 by means of rams 28 mounted in the columns whose rods 76 have pulleys 78 around which chains 30 pass. Both chains 30, 44 pass around pulleys 82, 48 mounted on a common shaft 86, the rotation of the said pulleys being synchronized so that when the columns 14, 16 are being raised the frame 22 remains stationary prior to it being raised. When the columns are in their raised position wedges 108, 110 located in the guide members 32 provide a firm support.
