Abstract
1314820 Tubular heat exchangers HYMATIC ENG CO Ltd 3 Aug 1970 [4 Aug 1969] 38965/69 Heading F4S A heat exchanger comprises coaxial tubes 14, 15 forming a fluid path wherein is disposed a helically coiled externally finned tube 10 adapted to form between the fin extremities and the tubes 14, 15 generally triangular spaces in which is disposed at least one (two being shown) helically wound tubular filament 19 of elastomeric material such as nylon or polyethylene. The tube fins are inclined at a small angle to the planes containing the axis of the helical coil, and the pitch of the helix is equal to or a little greater than the diameter of the fins. In particular, the tubes 14, 15 are glass elements of a Dewar vessel and the filament 19 provides sufficient resilience to minimize the danger of breakage when the heat exchanger is inserted as well as constraining the fluid passing between adjacent fins. The tube 19 may be inflated with a gas such as nitrogen, argon or helium to position the heat exchanger. For insertion and removal of the heat exchanger the tube 19 is deflated. Typical tube and filament dimensions are given.
