Abstract

131,456. Sharp & Preston, and Docking, A. Aug. 23, 1918. Roasting granular substances.-Relates to gasheated cylinders for drying malt and other substances and of the type in which the burner is placed in a perforated casing arranged within and concentric with an outer casing. The inner casing A forms a hollow axle that carries the drying cylinder or outer casing G and is formed with a flange A<3> to which the end walls of the outer casing and the journals B, E are secured. The journal B is tubular and surrounds the gas burner H, and it may also be provided with openings P to admit air to the burner. The walls of the inner casing A are formed with narrow slots A<1> covered with gauze A<2> so that the products of combustion can pass into the drying-cylinder G where the grain is placed, and thence escape by gauze-covered outlets M in the ends. The cylinder G may be disposed in a chamber of material which is a poor conductor of heat or may be lagged with such material N.
