Abstract
1314094 Luminescent materials MALLINCKRODT CHEMICAL WORKS 24 April 1970 19896/70 Heading C4S An activated alkaline earth haloapatite compound is prepared by simultaneously adding to a stirred aqueous precipitation medium a first solution containing alkaline earth, Cl, and Sb and/or Mn ions and a second solution containing F and phosphate ions, the solutions being added in amounts which maintain stoichiometric ratios of the ions, the temperature being maintained at not more than 56‹ C. which prevents the formation of #-Ca 3 PO 4 : some alkaline earth metal may be replaced by Cd. A solution prepared by dissolving Sb 2 O 3 , CdCO 3 and/or SrCO 3 , CaCl 2 and Mn(NO 3 ) 2 in HCl and a solution of NH 4 hydrogen phosphate, NH 4 OH and NH 4 F were metered into a vessel containing water or NH 4 OH. The pH value was maintained between 5 and 9. The precipitate was resuspended in water, HCl or NH 4 Cl heated to 70-95‹ C. and dried at 125‹ C. The product may be fired at 1050-1150‹ C.
