Abstract

1312285 Intruder alarm SHORROCK DEVELOPMENTS Ltd 25 Aug 1971 [11 Sept 1970] 43516/70 Heading G4N [Also in Division H4] A radar intruder alarm, in which a modulated transmitter radiates into the protected area and an adjacent receiver fed with a part of the radiated signal and reflected signals, operates an alarm when the time delay between transmitted and received signals varies. The Fig. 1 embodiment shows a Gunn diode transmitter 1, frequency modulated using a varactor diode 2 driven by sawtooth generator 3. Reflected signals are mixed in Schottky diode 5 with the instantaneous transmitted signal and passed to swept gain amplifier 6. Filters 7 determine the near and far boundaries of the protected area and any changes in level at the output of amplifier 8 are detected and trigger alarm 10. In a second embodiment (Fig. 2, not shown) a pulse generator (12) triggers a Gunn diode transmitter (11) and sawtooth generator (14) which controls two swept gain amplifiers (16, 17) in the receiver. The output of the second amplifier (17) is thus a series of pulses whose amplitudes are range dependent. Changes in the summed output amplitude trigger the alarm (19). The input to the change in level detector 9, (19) may be differentiated and used to disable the alarm for low and high velocity movements.
