Abstract

1311494 Armoured turrets RHEINMETALL GmbH 16 July 1970 [30 July 1969] 34607/70 Heading F3C An armoured turret 1 is provided with a gun 2 and a magazine 6 comprising tubular containers 10 mounted in an endless path in two parallel superimposed planes with the axes of the containers parallel to the axis of the gun bore, there being interposed between the gun 2 and magazine a loading device. In the construction shown closable openings 14, 15 are provided for the purpose of replenishing the magazine, ammunition being stored in the compartment 13 covered by the closure of opening 14. The containers are fixed to endless conveyer chains 11 which move in guide rails 12 in a supporting stand 8. The chains can be moved either continuously or intermittently. The loading device comprises a rocker 5. In a second embodiment (Figs. 2, 3, not shown) the containers are connected at each of their ends to a separate chain by pivot pins, the pivot pin at one end of a container being diametrically opposed to the pivot pin at the other end of the container so that the chains allow loading of the magazine and loading of the gun without fouling the effective opening of the containers. Two guide pins fixed to a cord section on the rear periphery of the containers co-operate with a guide rail. The magazine is mounted in the turret on a base-plate which is pivoted to the turret. The loading device comprises a telescopic tube forward of the magazine and a rammer is provided to the rear of the magazine.
