Abstract
1311152 Be-Al base alloys LOCKHEED AIRCRAFT CORP 20 May 1970 [26 May 1969] 24521/70 Addition to 1094269 Heading C7A Alloys comprise 20-90% of the total alloy of Be and the remainder an Al-rich phase of Al containing in solid solution one or more of:- Cu up to 5À7% Ag up to 10% Ti up to 5À5% Mg up to 17À4% Mn up to 1À4% Si up to 1À7% Zn up to 30% with optional additions of one or more of:- Bi up to 0À2% Cd up to 0À4% Cr up to 0À7% Fe up to 0À05% Ni up to 0À05% Pb up to 0À2% Ti up to 0À3% Zr up to 0À3% %'s being by weight based on the Al-rich phase unless otherwise specified; and the alloy has a complexity index of 1 to 5 with the Be present as a network continuous over large distances and the Al-rich phase being a separate single phase continuous network. The alloys may be made providing an Al-Be powder containing at least 20% Be with a Be-rich phase and an Al-rich phase and a complexity index of 1 to 5, adding powder of the addition element(s) and blending and compacting the mixture below the eutectic temperature of the combination of metals used so that the complexity index remains substantially constant.
