Abstract

1310227 Pneumatic forwarding devices IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 5 Oct 1970 [10 Oct 1969] 49831/69 Headings D1N and D1F A pneumatic forwarding device 18 has an internal passageway therethrough and a pneumatic fluid ingress passage joining the same. The device is made in two sections 16 and 20 abutting on a plane through the passageway but not intersecting the ingress passage. The sections are hingeably mounted on an axis parallel to the passageway. The device is opened and closed by a pneumatic cylinder 20 activated by sensing devices 28 and 30 through the amplifier illustrated in Fig. 1 (not shown). Alternatively an electric circuit with a solenoid in place of the cylinder 2 may be used. String- ing up is achieved by a carriage 48 which by means of thread guides 44 and 46 transports the thread into the passageway of the forwarding device 18. The sensing devices 28 and 30 are activated by a striker 50 to open and close the device at appropriate times. The sections of the device 16 and 20 are either sealed by a suitable resilient sealing strip or are themselves made of an elastic material. The device may principally be employed for forwarding filaments to a collecting surface of a non- woven fabric producing machine, the filaments emerging from the forwarding device being separated from each other by the emerging air flow.
