Abstract

1310009 Sewing machine PATHE EQUIPMENT CO Inc 6 July 1971 [6 July 1970] 31712/71 Heading D1G A multineedle lock stitch sewing machine having a number of needles 18 each co-operating with a single reciprocating shuttle 31 is characterised by each of the needles 18 being provided with a second needle 18<SP>1</SP>, the needles 18, 18<SP>1</SP> together constituting a set, the thread loops presented by the needles of a set being engaged by that single shuttle 31, the machine also including a work supporting plate having openings each of which comprises a slot for the passage of a set of needles. In the quilting machine disclosed two rows of needles 18, 28 are provided having a row 18<SP>1</SP> 28<SP>1</SP> respectively of companion needles, all the needles being on a common needle bar 17. A work carriage 19 has rolls 20 moving the work transversely of the needle bar 17 and has rollers permitting its movement parallel to the bar, under the influence of cams on a cam shaft (24, Fig. 1, not shown). The shuttles 31, 32, are carried on a shuttle holder 30 reciprocated by a slide rod 36 and linkwork. The pivot pin 44 is adjusted to provide the increased shuttle movement to cooperate with both needles of a set. The needle bars and shuttle races may be inclined to the work direction. Stitches, seams, embroidery. The resulting stitch has two upper threads 52, 52' and a single locking thread 53, the work between the upper threads becoming upwardly arched at P to provide the appearance of a piped seam. Padded work, feeding long lengths by rollers. The work which comprises two sheets, with wadding therebetween, is drawn across the work carriage 19 by the rolls 20.
