Abstract

1309554 Compression moulding BRITISH CERAMIC RESEARCH ASSOCIATION 7 Sept 1970 [6 Sept 1969] 44184/69 Heading B5A In a method for the production of ceramic workpieces in which a loose heap 13 of ceramic granules is introduced on to a bottom die 10, the heap of granules is preformed to a predetermined contour by means of a rotating and/or vibrating die 12, and the contoured bed 14 thus formed is compacted into a coherent from by exerting a pressure with the die 12; the bed 14 is then subjected to a further pressing operation at higher pressure by means of a further top die 15 to produce the actual workpiece 16. Preferably the preforming and compacting operations take place at one station, the bottom die being transferred by a conveyer system e.g. a rotary table press to another station where the final pressing operation takes place. More than one bottom die may be provided, and a further station may be provided where the granular material is fed on to the bottom die. Specification 1,160,137 is referred to.
