1309084 Rotary conveyers for bars and tubes JOHN MARSHALL (ENGS) Ltd 17 July 1970 [17 July 1969 21 Feb 1970] 36006/69 and 8424/70 Heading B8A [Also in Division B3] Apparatus for abrading an end of a bar or tube comprises a track 9 along which the bar or tube is conveyed, a set of spaced apart coaxial discs 4 1 , 4 1 mounted to rotate together as a set, each disc being provided with at least one slot 6 extending inwardly from the periphery of the disc such that the bar or tube can be located within mutually parallel slots as it travels along the track 9, the slots holding the bar or tube in a lateral orientation relative to the track. As shown there are a plurality of such sets of discs arranged along the track device, the sets of discs being interconnected for rotation together to maintain the slots in suitable relative positions for transfer of a bar or tube from a slot or slots in one set of discs to a slot or slots in another set of discs. The tubes are fed into the slots 6, 6 1 on the first set of discs by the action of a hopper 10. The latter includes two feed rollers 10a, 10b. Shafts 2 of adjacent sets of discs are connected by chain gearing 7, 8 and are driven by an electric motor. The resultant rotation of the discs in addition to providing the drive for the apparatus, causes rotating of the tubes in the hopper by the action of friction of the tubes acting on one another and by the leading tube being in contact with the first set of discs. The track 9 may be curved (Fig. 4, not shown). Rotating wire brushes (not shown) are arranged at each end of the tubes and the bristles of the brushes move over the ends of each tube in a downward direction.
