1308670 Coin-freed amusement machines EPOCH CO Ltd 27 Nov 1970 [16 Dec 1969] 56474/70 Heading G4V A money box, incorporating a coin freed amusement in the form of a "fruit machine" to encourage saving, comprises indicia bearing reels 68, 70, Fig. 4, on shaft 66, an operating handle 26 on shaft 28, a rod 50 linking a bearing 44 with shaft 28, a rod 56 linking bearing 46 and a shaft 60, and toothed segments 72, 74 on shaft 60 which engage gear-wheels 76, 78 when shaft 60 is rotated. When handle 26 is pulled forwardly the rotation of shaft 28 is transferred to shaft 60 provided a coin has been deposited to form a mechanical link between bearings 44, 46 and hence between rods 50 and 56. After the deposited coin has moved below an abutment 80, it is ejected from its position between bearings 44, 46 and the consequent release of rod 56 and its bearing 46 allows rotation of shaft 60 in the opposite direction under the action of a spring 62 and free-wheel spinning of reels 68, 70 as segments 72, 74 engage, then disengage, gear-wheels 76, 78. During the initial rotation of shaft 60, an arm 84 fixed thereto, Fig. 5, is withdrawn from interaction with cams 88 and 86, Fig. 7, which face one another and are fixed to reels 70 and 68 respectively, to free the reels. Arm 84 is held in a retracted position by the engagement of a rod 97, Figs. 4 and 5, with protrusions 100 of a pivoted release mechanism 92. To stop the reels, button 90 on mechanism 92 is pressed to release rod 97 and allow arm 84 to swing into engagement with cams 86, 88 under the action of spring 62, the precise stopped position of the reels depending on the relative positions of cams 86, 88. Cam 88, Fig. 5, has recesses 89, 91 and should one of these be engaged by arm 84 and be simultaneously aligned with a recess 93 of cam 86, Fig. 7, a pay-out is made proportional to the depth of recess 93. As shown, three depths of recess 93 are provided giving three pivoted pay-out positions of an elbow 102 attached to arm 84. Elbow 102 engages a dispensing wheel 38, Fig. 6, having a coin pocket 40 provided with fulcrum points 108, 110, so that one, two or three coins are dispensed depending on which pay-out position is reached, if any, by elbow 102. Coins are supplied to pocket 40 via storage compartment 34 and coins arrive in the latter either after release from bearings 44, 46 or by deposit in an opening 22. Excess coins pass via channel 36 to an exit 24.
