Abstract

1308441 Air cushion lifting device HOVERLOAD VEHICLES Ltd 5 June 1970 [24 June 1969 10 July 1969 30 Aug 1969 30 Sept 1969] 31818/69 34824/69 43275/69 and 47969/69 Heading B7K [Also in Divisions B8 and D1] To prevent excessive air escape, an airpermeable sheet 14 closes off the plenum chamber of an air cushion lifting device having, as shown, a base and a skirt 3, which may be plain, pocketed or in-separate sections (Fig. 3, not shown) and which is attached atits upper edge to the base so as to depend like a tongue in order to deflect easily when the device meets an obstacle. In Fig. 2, the sheet extends to cover additionally the whole skirt area. The sheet 4 may have a small central hole and there may be several plenum chambers under one upper platform. Completely flexable devices, insertable when deflated under loads, are described, comprising, in Fig. 4, an impermeable sheet 32 and apermeable sheet 34 quilted thereto nd, in Fig. 5, a straight or curved bolster having an impermeable channel section 42 and a permeable channel section 44. The device in elongated form may be used inverted with the air film so presented acting as a conveyer. The permeable material is formed of suitable specified woven or knitted, natural and/or synthetic fibres of monofilament or multifilament form, e.g. glass, P.T.F.E. or P.T.F.E. coated fibres.
