1307980 Papermaking C H JOHNSON & SONS Ltd 10 March 1970 [11 March 1969] 12671/69 Heading D2A A low-vacuum suction box comprises a top adapted to support a paper machine wire, a water outlet at or adjacent the bottom of the box and valve means operable to control discharge of water directly to atmosphere from the outlet. The valve may be a slide valve acting on or in a duct, or a butterfly valve mounted on a spindle extending in the crossmachine direction in a duct, supported in bearings spaced along the spindle. In the second case, the spindle may be rotated by a lever which moves over a scale to indicate the degree of opening of the valve. The level of water in the box may be observed by means of a transparent wall or part of a wall in the box or by means of a U-tube connected to a duct. The box may be rectangular or triangular in cross-section. The water may discharge into a save all.
