Abstract

1307312 Centrifugal pumps WEIR PUMPS Ltd 19 April 1971 [31 March 1970] 15292/70 Heading F1C A diffuser for a centrifugal pump, arranged tangentially relative to the circle defined by the tips of the impeller blades comprises a divergent diffusing section 20, Fig. 2, downstream of a part-cylindrical passage and a convergent intermediate section, the intersection of the intermediate section and the diffusing section defining a throat 22, the ratio of the cylindrical passage diameter to the greatest length of the passage between the chamber and the throat being substantially 2À7 and the ratio of the passage diameter to the throat diameter being substantially 1À5. The pump 10 comprises a step-up gear train 11 driven by an electric motor 12. An impeller 43 draws fluid through an inlet 15 into the chamber 14 from where impellers 17 deliver the fluid via the diffuser 23.
