Abstract

1306881 Cooking vessels M S FOULSTONE 13 Sept 1971 [17 June 1970] 29332/70 Heading A4A A cooking vessel 1 comprises a container 3 with an open top, and a lid 4 mounted for unlimited sliding movement within the container and having a peripheral upstanding wall 10 which has an annular clearance from the internal surface of the container to allow the passage of hot air or vapour and which acts as a vapour condensing surface when the vessel is in use. The receptacle 11 formed by the wall 10 may contain different amounts of ballast such as water, to vary the weight of the lid. The weight is varied so that the lid rests lightly on the food 12 to be cooked. The base 5 of the lid is thermally insulated. An insulating air space which is ventilated to the atmosphere through a vent 9 in the handle 8 of the lid is formed by the upper wall 7 and the lower wall 6 of the hollow base. Alternatively solid heat-insulation may be incorporated in the base. The lid may be of plastics or metal. The ballast in the receptacle 11 causes condensation of escaping vapour minimizing loss of liquid from the food. The lid may be used to strain the liquid in which it has been cooked.
