Abstract
1306870 Counterbalanced articulated pipe EMCO Ltd 29 Sept 1970 [15 Oct 1969] 46349/70 Heading F2P A linkage 52-60 connects articulated lengths 22, 30 of a pipe 10 to a base pipe 16 and includes a spring 42 which acts through the linkage to counterbalance length 22 and the components carried thereby about its pivot 14 with the base pipe 16 and also to counterbalance length 30 about its pivot 24 with length 22. The spring tends to move adjustable length link 44 to the left and downwardly in Fig. 1 and this acts through link 48 firstly on a lug 46 secured to length 22 and secondly through link 58 on a lug 60 secured to length 30. The point of attachment between links 44 and 48 is adjustable. In a modification, Fig. 6 (not shown), link 44 is pivoted to the left hand end (Fig. 1) of link 48, link 58 is pivoted to the right hand end of link 48, and the length 22 is pivoted to link 48 between the ends of the latter. In another modification, Fig. 5 (not shown), link 44 is pivotally attached to a member rigid with the base pipe, and spring 42 is replaced by a spring section of link 58.
