Abstract

1306242 Universal joints SKF KUGELLAGERFABRIKEN GmbH 3 Aug 1970 [5 Aug 1969] 37416/70 Heading F2U A centring bearing for a flexible coupling, shown as the type incorporating an elastic ring 5 secured by bolts 4 passing through spider arms 3 on the shafts 1, 2, comprises spherical surfaced rings 7, 9 respectively located in a bore 6 of shaft 1 and on a journal 8 of shaft 2, and axially loaded by a helical spring 15, an elastic sealing ring 10 being mounted in the bore 6 and engaging the journal 8. As shown spring 15 is mounted between ring 7 and a flange 13 of an inner sleeve 12 also carrying sealing ring 10, the other end 11 of sleeve 12 being shaped to engage ring 9, so that the rings, spring and seal may be assembled as a unit. In other forms spring 15 is fitted on the opposite side of rings 7, 9 in an external sleeve, while the spring may be in the form of a cone disc or made of plastics material, Figs. 3-6 (not shown).
