Abstract
1306076 Electric selectors; electromagnets GENERAL ELECTRIC CO Ltd 13 Aug 1970 [15 Aug 1969] 40950/69 Headings H1L and H1P In a cross-bar switch utilizing contactoperating interponents, at least the members of one set of co-ordinate bars are actuated by respective armatures of a plurality of electromagnets, the core of each of which together with its associated armature are located by a common stop-member in the unenergized state of the electromagnet. The switch is basically that of Specifications 1,216,186, 1,306,072, 1,306,073, 1,306,074 and 1,306,075. The interponent construction is detailed in copending application 40949/69. In Fig. 19, a flat U-shaped core 141 is spring- urged (147) against a pin 145 carried by a common stop-plate 134. The core carries a winding 152 on a bobbin 151 which is located by another pin 148 carried by the plate 134. The shown housing is in two parts, an upper part containing seven electromagnets and a lower part containing six electromagnets which alternate (when viewed downwardly in the plane of the paper) with the upper electromagnets. Each magnet co-operates with an armature 143 which is faced with a non-magnetic nickel-silver alloy for reducing residual holding flux or deenergization of the magnet. Each armature is carried by prongs at the end of an associated select bar 120 and is forced against a pin 146 on stop-plate 134 by virtue of the spring loading at the remote end of the select bar. A vertical extension 122 (which is in fact forked as depicted in Fig. 21, not shown) at the end of the select bar serves to distribute the select bar spring pressure over a considerable portion of the armature. In another embodiment, Fig. 25, the vertical extension of the select bar is held in contact with that face of the armature which engages the core by means of a spring-clip 172. The extension 170 is apertured, e.g. at 174 to allow the armature to be drawn on to the core 141 when this is energized. The same face of the extension 170 that engages the armature also engages a projection 178 of the stop-plate 176. The select bar 182 is spring-urged 183 at the electromagnet end thereof in this case.
