Abstract

1305791 Electrostatic charging apparatus CANON K K 12 Feb 1970 [12 Feb 1969 5 March 1969(4)] 6925/70 Heading G2H [Also in Division H1] An electro-photographic copying apparatus includes an A.C, corona discharge device comprising a shield 4 of insulating material surrounding a discharge electrode 3. The known use of a conductive shield is referred to. The shield 4 is open at the top and bottom to enable an image to be projected through the device onto a photo-sensitive plate while simultaneously applying an A.C. corona discharge to form an electrostatic image on said plate. Modification Figs.3-14 (not shown) comprise:- (a) mounting earthed conductive plates on each side surface of shield 4. (b) attaching a metallic shielding member or wire to the lower edge of each side of shield 4. (c) covering the top opening with a transparent window made of acrylic or polyester resins or with a conductive transparent plate or mesh electrode. (d) providing two wire electrodes between which an earthed or biased transparent conductive member or system of wires may be mounted in a vertical plane. (e) providing a plurality of parallel wires or a mesh electrode across the bottom opening. (f) sloping the sides of shield 4.
