Abstract
1305069 Core constructions ALLIS CHALMERS MFG CO 18 May 1970 [19 May 1969] 23978/70 Heading H2A In a synchronous reluctance motor having a rotor with at least one quadrature axis, the rotor core includes a magnetic path extending radially inwardly from the core periphery on the quadrature axis, the path being so dimensioned as to be unsaturated under no load conditions and substantially saturated under pull-out conditions. As a result the quadrature reactance falls with increasing load. The rotor 8 of the four pole motor shown has four slots 11 around each quadrature axis, the teeth 12 between the slots forming the saturable magnetic path. The slots 11 shown are closed and the bridging pieces 13 also form part of the magnetic paths. The rotor shown includes' two flux barriers 9 per pole, the barriers and the slots 11 being filled with conductive, non- magnetic material forming a squirrel cage. In a modification. Fig. 3 (not shown), the rotor has three slots 11 around each quadrature axis and one flux barrier per pole. Equations are given for calculating the required dimensions of the teeth 12.
