1305055 Infant feeding bottle AMERICAN FLANGE & MFG CO Inc 13 April 1970 [12 May 1969] 17400/70 Heading A5X A feeding bottle comprises a bottle 1, an upstanding neck 2 terminating in a dispensing opening, an integral "finish" having a flat top surface 3, a locking shoulder 7 and an annular groove 9, a resilient feeding nipple 30 secured to the finish, a metal sealing cap restraining the nipple in a retracted position, and a tear strip 45 formed in the cap allowing removal thereof and enabling the nipple to resume an erect feeding position. A cup-shaped plastics insert 20 snapped onto the bottle finish beneath the nipple has an annular sealing lip 26 extending radially outwardly from the upper end of its side wall 22 so when the cap is in position the lip seals against the finish at 3 and prevents contact between the bottle contents and the nipple. Formed about the periphery of the insert are a series of fingers 27 which terminate at their lower ends in an acute angled corner 28 from which a pair of teeth 29 extend radially inwards engaging the bottle finish at 6. When the cap is removed the bottle contents may flow between the insert and the finish at 3, between the teeth 29 and into the nipple. The insert also comprises four radial webs 23 to assist in locating the insert within the neck opening and a single radial web on the insert interior to ensure eccentric folding of the nipple and so improve its ability to spring up. In one modification (Fig. 6) fluid may flow through a perforation (35) in the wall of the insert after the cap is removed. The lower portion of the skirt of the cap is formed to provide a channel 48 engaging in the groove 9 in the bottle neck to prevent upward or downward movement of the cap skirt.
