Abstract
1304120 Grinding L D SLATER 29 Oct 1971 50515/71 Heading B3D A portable whetting machine for sharpening knives, scissors or other cutting tools comprises a whetting wheel 7 carried by a drive shaft 10 of an electric motor housed in a body member 1, at least a portion of the periphery of the wheel, which is of metal and diamond impregnated or coated with synthesized boron, projecting from the body member, and a fixed guide member 19 located adjacent the projecting portion of the periphery. The motor is disposed at 0 to 60 degrees, and preferably 45 degrees, to the horizontal in the body member which may be of steel or plastics material, the shaft extending through an aperture in the body. The wheel may be of steel and is chamfered at the same angle and has an arcuate profile. The wheel is disposed in a cup-shaped guard 15 with a portion 17 of its periphery projecting and the guide 19 or a peg is provided for guiding a knife as it is drawn across the wheel for sharpening.
