Abstract

1304075 Valves L'AIR LIQUID SOC ANON POUR L'ETUDE ET L'EXPLOITATION DES PROCEDES GEORGES CLAUDE 6 May 1970 [7 May 1969] 21922/70 Heading F2V [Also in Division F4] A valve for controlling the supply of oxygen in a welding torch has two closure members 3, 8 which control flow between an inlet 1 and separate outlets 5, 6. Closure member 3 when seated prevents flow to both outlets and when first opened allows a large flow to outlet 5 compared with the flow that closure member 8 allows to outlet 6. Closure member 8 which does not seat acts to meter the flow to outlet 6 whereas closure member 3 acts merely as an onoff valve. Outlet 5 communicates with a central passage 28 in the cutting head through passages 16, 18, manually actuated valve 20 and passage 26. Outlet 6 communicates with a passageway 36 in which the oxygen mixes with acetylene from a chamber 32. The passageway 36 communicates with peripheral passageways 30 in the head. In modifications of the valve, tapered portion 3 is replaced by the flat end of a piston and inlet 1 and outlet 6 may be interchanged.
