Abstract
1303631 Frequency synthesis RACAL INSTRUMENTS Ltd 2 March 1970 [1 March 1969] 11029/69 Heading H3A A frequency synthesizer comprises a variable frequency generator 18 producing an output frequency Fo dependent on a control frequency Fr and a variable frequency divider 20, the frequency Fr being varied as a function of the division factor N 1 of divider 20. The synthesizer may comprise a first synthesizing frequency Fp obtained by a phase comparision of a reference frequency F derived from source 31 of Mc/s. with a signal obtained from a controlled oscillator 36 via a variable divider 40 having a division ratio N 2 . The signal Fp is further divided by a variable division factor N 1 to obtain an intermediate signal Fu which is added to a reference frequency Fs at 30 to obtain a second synthesizing frequency Fc which after a fixed division by n/p at 28 becomes the control frequency Fr. The dividers 20 and 38 may be gauged electrically or mechanically. Adjustment of variable division ratios N 1 causes the output frequency to vary in steps of n c/s. and variation of N 2 causes output to vary in steps of p c/s. A fixed divider may follow the variable divider 38. Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown) indicate arrangements for extending the range of output frequencies.
