Abstract
1303428 Nitriding steel NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP 25 March 1970 [10 April 1969] 18504/69 Heading C7U An iron alloy including at least one ironsoluble addition which reduces significantly the activity coefficient of nitrogen in iron, is gasnitrided in an atmosphere the nitrogen potential and temperature of which are such as to favour the formation of G.F. zones and inhibit the production of iron nitrides. The alloying element may be Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Zr, Nb, Mo, Ta or W, generally in the range 0À2-10% by weight, while the nitriding temperature may be 450-650‹C.
