Abstract
1303232 Tyre building drums GOODYEAR TIRE & RUBBER CO 25 May 1971 [6 July 1970] 16912/71 Heading B7C The segments 40, 56, which form the continuous outer surface of collapsible tyre building drum are each mounted on a pair of pistons 80, 78, which are radially slidable in cylindrical guides in block portions 72, 74 of a hub 66 on a shaft 10, and connected by a pair of links 82 or 86 to members 24, 26 axially movable between first and second positions, the distance between the pivotal axes of each link 86 being less than the corresponding distance of each link 82 and, during movement of members 24, 26 between their first and second positions, the links 86 pass through on-centre, i.e. a position wherein the pivotal axes of each link lie in a common plane perpendicular to the drum axis whereas links 82 are on-centre in the first position of said members. By this linkage segments 56 are caused to move radially outwardly until links 86 pass through on-centre and then inwardly to follow the continuous inward movement of segments 40 to the position of Fig. 3. Each segment comprises a base 42 and a spacer 54 between a pair of shell members 44, 46 or 60. 62 which spacer may be exchanged for one of different width to vary the length of the drum.
