Abstract

1303281 Controlling A.C. supply to loads LICENTIA PATENT - VERWALTUNGSGmbH 23 April 1970 [24 April 1969] 19591/70 Heading H2H A circuit for controlling the supply of alternating current to a load 4 comprises reverse parallel connected thyristors 1, 2 which are switched on alternately at the zero passages of the alternating current by the discharge currents of respective control capacitors 51 and 61 respectively. A control circuit 3 switches on a transistor 7 to enable the capacitor 51 to be charged from the A.C. supply via a diode 53 and a resistor 52 during the first half cycle. Just before the zero passage of the A.C. supply, a transistor 57 is switched on to enable the capacitor 51 to discharge during the next half cycle via a diode 54 and the thyristor 1 thus switching on the thyristor 1. During this half cycle the capacitor 61 is charged from the voltage across the load via a diode 63 and a resistor 62. In the next half cycle the discharge of the capacitor 61 through the thyristor 2 and a resistor 66 switches on the thyristor 2, the thyristor 1 being prevented from conducting since the transistor 57 is switched off. The current supplied to the load may therefore be controlled by controlling the frequency at which the transistor 7 is switched on since each control pulse from the circuit 3 enables the capacitor 51 to charge so that the thyristors 1, 2 each conduct for one half cycle.
