1301978 Mountings for sinks &c ELKAY MFG CO 9 April 1971 [17 March 1970] 23967/71 Heading A4N [Also in Division E2] A retainer device adapted for mounting an appliance eg. a sink 60 on a counter 50 having an opening 55, wherein the sink has a flange 70 overlying the marginal edge of the opening, comprises a clamp member 101 adapted to be secured to the underside of the flange and extending into the opening and provided with a locking corner 110 presenting a limited contact area and which is shiftable between a rest position and a fully deflected position and a plurality of intermediate retaining positions therebetween and a clip 120 adapted to be mounted on the counter within the opening and having a cam surface 125 disposed away from the top of the counter and extending upwardly and inwardly of the opening. The cam surface presents an extended contact area and is essentially rigid to provide a constant camming angle for engagement with the locking corner 110 along the cam surface as the locking corner moves from a fully deflected position towards the rest position thereof thereby generating a substantial vertical force urging the clamp member and the flange secured thereto downwardly relative to the counter firmly to press the rim against the counter. As shown, a plurality of clamp members 101 each have a longitudinal portion 102 secured by weldments 104 to the flange 70, a body 105 having openings 106 to impart flexibility thereto, an outurned flange 107, and a flange 108 provided with apertures 111 and a camming surface 115. The clips 120 each have a flange 122 which overlies the counter 50 and a flange 123 which carries a camming flange 124 terminating in a edge 128 normally disposed against the edge 56 of the opening 55. In use, the clips are secured by nails 127, the sink being pushed downwardly whereby the surfaces 115 firstly engage the junctions 129 to deflect inwardly the corners 110 whereafter the corners engage the surfaces 125.
