1301830 Diaphragm vibrators WESTFALISCHE METALL INDUSTRIE KG HUECK & CO 8 June 1970 [9 June 1969] 27714/70 Heading G5J An accoustic signalling device comprises a diaphragm 4, energized by conventional electromagnetic means, and a plate 6 secured to the edge of the diaphragm by integrally formed extensions of its main area. The plate 6 has a length radially of the diaphragm equal to approximately <SP>2</SP>/ 3 of the wavelength of the loudest harmonic radiated by the diaphragm, and is positioned so that the anti-node of this harmonic lies beneath the centre of the plate. The cavity formed between the diaphragm and the plate acts as a Helmholtz resonator for the loudest harmonic. The plate 6 may be made of sheet-metal, or plastics, and may be square, circular, or of the shape shown in Fig. 2 (not shown). Several plates may be arranged in front of the diaphragm in a criss-cross arrangement. The plate or plates are spaced approximately 5 mm. from the diaphragm.
