Abstract
130,150. Jenkins, A. F. July 24, 1918. Blowpipe burners.-Relates to cutting and welding burners of the type having removable and interchangeable tips, and in which the meeting faces of the head and tip are at right-angles to their axes. Separate tips may be used for cutting and welding, or, in one form, the same tip may be adjusted so as to be used for cutting or for welding. In one form, the head A, Figs. 1 and 2, has three passages 1, 2, 3 for cutting oxygen, fuel gas, and welding oxygen respectively, these passages terminating in concentric grooves or rings 10, 11, 12 which match with similar rings in the cutting tip B, from which lead passages 13, 14 through the tip. The cutting tip B may be replaced by a welding tip B', the solid central part of which cuts off the supply of cutting oxygen. In each of these cases the fuel gas and welding oxygen mix in the tip. In another form, the head A<1>, Fig. 6, has a cutting oxygen passage 18, and a welding gas passage 19, the welding gases being mixed before they reach the head. A pin on the head engages in one or other of two notches on the tip so that the orifices in the tip may be locked in line with or at rightangles to the handle of the blowpipe. The cutting tip B<2> may be interchanged with a welding tip B<3>, Fig. 7. In a third form, a single tip B<4>, Fig. 11, may be adjusted and locked, by means of a pin 37 on the head engaging in slots 38 in thetip, so that the blowpipe may be used for cutting or welding as desired. The supply passages 35<a>. 36<a> in the head communicate, in the cutting position, with arcuate ports 35. 36 in the tip, the former of these ports communicating with the central cutting oxygen passage 33 in the tip, and the other with the welding gas passages 34. In the welding position, the tip is turned so that the port 35 is out of communication with the passage 35<a>, which is then closed by a solid portion of the tip.
