Abstract

1301595 Invalids chairs HUGH STEEPER (ROEHAMPTON) Ltd 7 Oct 1971 [9 Oct 1970] 48090/70 Heading A4J [Also in Division B7] An invalids chair having a seat 80 which can be swivelled about a horizontal axis and can be moved forwards or backwards below the lower edge of a vertically adjustable back rest 50, and adjustable supports 76, 54, 84, 92, 102 and 110 for the arms, for the hips or thighs, for abduction mounted near the front of the seat, and for the legs and feet respectively. The seat 80 has sleeves, brackets or rings on its underside through which a cross shaft 32 passes such that the seat may rotate about the shaft, the padded portion of the seat being mounted on runners or slides on the seat frame to allow forwards or backwards movement of the padded portion. Finally, the seat can be moved up and down by adjustment of telescopic tubes 24, 28 which support the cross shaft 32 on which the seat is carried. The back rest 50 may have metal plates 66 with slots 68 for receiving stud-heads on adjustable rib-supports 70 which can thus be moved towards or away from the vertical centre line of the back rest. All the supports may be padded and are also detachable so that they can be cleaned and sterilized. The adjustable parts of the chair are in general locked in selected positions by hand wheels which include pairs of locking discs with co-operating radially-extending grooves to avoid slipping.
