Abstract
1301448 Preparation of methoxynaphthylpropionic acid and intermediates therefor SYNTEX CORP 20 Jan 1970 [30 Sept 1969] 31632/72 Divided out of 1300591 Heading C2C 2 - (6 - Methoxy - 2 - naphthyl) propionic acid is prepared by hydrogenating a compound I: in which R is Cl, Br or I, in the presence of a catalyst until hydrogenolysis is complete and optionally resolving a dl-mixture thus formed. Compounds I are claimed per se and are prepared by reacting a compound I in which R is OH with SOCl 2 or SOBr 2 to give compounds I where R is Cl or Br followed if desired by reaction of compound I where R is Br with NaI to give the iodo derivative. Pharmaceutical compositions comprising 2-(6- methoxy - 2 - naphthyl) propionic acid when prepared as above, together with an excipient are used in treating inflammation, pain and pyrexia.
