1301335 Transferring glass article blanks OWENS-ILLINOIS Inc 3 Oct 1970 47097/70 Heading C1M An apparatus for transferring glass article blanks each having an outwardly bulged snail portion at its upper end from a first conveyer 12 to a second conveyer 24, comprises a third conveyer 20 having an endless path with one run parallel to the first conveyer and a second run parallel to the second conveyer, the third conveyer being made up of a plurality of transfer devices each having a support yoke and a pair of retainer fingers immediately therebelow the yoke and fingers being capable of moving in both horizontal and vertical directions normal to the direction of movement of the conveyor. Each transfer device comprises a bracket 82<SP>1</SP>, a carriage 98 mounted on the bracket for slidable movement in a horizontal direction and a carrier 110 mounted on the carriage for slidable movement in a direction parallel to the direction of movement of the carriage 98, a spring 114 acting between the carriage and carrier to bias the latter outwardly. The yoke 126 and each of support fingers 152 are pivotally mounted on the carrier, each finger being coupled to the carriage 98 by means of a bolt pivoted at one end to the finger and at the other end to the carriage. In use, the carriage 98 is driven outwardly by means of a roller 100 contacting a cam track 102 to extend the yoke and fingers until a block 120 integral with the carrier 110 contacts a stop 124 on the bracket after which further movement of the carriage causes the fingers to close. A second cam track 96 acts on a roller 94 to raise or lower the device. A mechanism is provided to remove the cam tracks from position so as to render the transfer assembly inoperative. The yoke is partly covered by a fibrous material such as asbestos.
