Abstract
1301317 Steam irons SUNBEAM CORP 17 Sept 1970 [17 Sept 1969] 44507/70 Heading D1A Discharge ports 98 in the soleplate 22 of an iron are supplied with steam at a relatively low rate by a first flash steam chamber 92 fed by a drip feed valve 56 from a tank 25 and at a relatively fast rate for deep steam penetration of a fabric by a second chamber 94 fed from the tank 25 by a manual pump 64. The chambers 92 and 94 communicate with the ports 98 through a labyrinth 96 having a weir 111 to prevent water from the chamber 92 entering the chamber 94 and over which water and steam from the chamber 94 are ejected, passages 105 and 107 at an acute included angle to prevent fluid from the chamber 94 entering the chamber 92, and projections 116 to break up and evaporate any water droplets in the labyrinth. The tank 25 has a gauge glass 26 for use when the iron is upright on its end.
