Abstract

1300566 Bicycles; weather shields R W SEELEY 19 April 1971 [13 Dec 1969] 60890/69 Headings B7E and B7J A bicycle comprises a sheet metal frame 20, front forks 12 journalling a front wheel 10, a rear wheel 22 journalled between frame members and a pedal crank mechanism mounted either on the rear end of the frame or on a sub-frame 40 pivotable about the axis of the rear wheel and lockable in intermediate positions between the extreme rear portion shown in Fig. 1 and an extreme forward position, Fig. 7 (not shown). In the position of Fig. 1 the rider's body is supported at 24 in the prone position. The drive may be either by a chain or toothed belt. The frame may be alternatively constructed using side panels of fibreglass or aluminium sandwiching a honeycomb or cellular structure, with the outer edges of the frame reinforced by ribs or chanel section members. The sandwich structure will be cut away to accommodate the rear wheel between the rear ends of the side panels. A weather shield may be provided to completely cover a rider, Fig. 4 (not shown).
