Abstract

1300400 Casting sheets MITSUBISHI RAYON CO Ltd 29 Dec 1969 [30 Dec 1968 17 April 1969] 63021/69 Heading B5A Apparatus for the continuous casting of polymeric sheet by continuously polymerizing a liquid monomeric composition includes horizontal endless belts 1, 2 between which liquid monomeric material is fed from a wedge-shaped feeding head 9 supplied from a tank 11 via a pump 12. Sealing gaskets 10 are compressed between the opposed belt edges and the space between the belts is controlled by rollers 7, 8. During the passage of the material between the belts it is polymerized by heating the belts by warm water followed by heating in a heated atmosphere. The head is spaced from the belts and its discharge outlet faces the rear of the belt roller 3. In a modification the feeding head supplies a rectangular duct extending between the belts and spaced at its sides from the gaskets. In a further modification, Fig. 12, the head is suspended by rods 26 from the shaft of belt pulley 3 and is supported by a rod 27. The rollers 31, 32 for imparting pressure to the belts 1, 2 may be as shown in Fig. 15 in which the rollers are supported by bearings 30 on flexible shafts 29. Instead of pressure rollers, frameworks may be located adjacent the belts, such frameworks including transversely and longitudinally extending belt contacting bars. Various arrangements of sealing gaskets for locating between the belt edges are described.
