1399563 Gas-fired space and water heater ATWOOD VACUUM MACHINE CO 21 Feb 1973 [10 March 1972] 8404/73 Headings F4S and F4A In a gas-fired space and/or water heating unit (e.g. for a caravan) the space is heated mainly by radiation from a housing 30 which defines a combustion chamber 23 (the front wall 33 of which faces the room to be heated), and the water in a tank 19 is heated by a combustion chamber 28 (e.g. a helical tube) extending upwardly through the tank, each combustion chamber having its own gas burner 20 or 21 individually controlled (e.g. by respective control valves 71, 73, Fig. 2), a common supply of combustion air being conveyed to the burners via a duct 39 and chamber 34, and the two combustion chambers exhausting to a common outlet duct 43, via an outlet 44 from chamber 23 and an outlet 56 from chamber 28. The exhaust gas duct 43 extends through the combustion-air inlet duct 39 as shown. A single pilot burner 61 serves both burners 20 and 21 and the unit includes a main gas valve 67, Fig. 2, controlling the supply to the unit as a whole including the pilot burner. The burners 20, 21 are separately controlled by thermostat (not shown) in the space being heated and in the hot water tank 19. In use, the hot water outlet 50 of the tank is connected by suitable piping (not shown) to hot water taps. Cold water enters the tank at 49. The tank is encircled by a heat reflective shield (46, Fig. 3) and a layer (47) of thermal insulation.
