Abstract

1399060 Loading arms LUCEAT 16 April 1973 [28 April 1972] 18158/73 Heading B8E A fluid loading arm 10 comprises an inboard arm section 18 connected to a riser 12 for pivoting about a horizontal axis B and connected to an outboard arm section 20 which is pivotable about a vertical axis D from an extended operating position to a stowed position in which the outboard section 20 is alongside the inboard section. The riser 12 is mounted on the deck of a ship 16 via a swivel joint 28 and can be pivoted about a vertical axis A by an hydraulic cylinder 32. An hydraulic cylinder 36 is operative to pivot the inboard about the axis B. The outboard section 20 is connected to a 90 degree elbow 46 via a swivel joint 48 and is pivoted about a horizontal axis E by a ram 50. The elbow 46 is connected to a second elbow 42 via a swivel joint 44 defining the vertical axis D, the elbow 42 being connected to the inboard section 18 through a swivel joint 40. To maintain the disposition of the outboard section 20 during pivoting of the inboard section 18, cables 56a, 56b interconnected by rods 56c, 56d guided by rollers 58, are trained around a first sheave 52 secured to the riser 12 and a second sheave 54 pivoted to the inboard section 18 and fixed to the elbow 42. A universal coupling 24 is carried at the end of the outboard section 20.
