Abstract
1398609 Punching SOC ANON AUTOMOBILES CITROEN 16 Nov 1972 [19 Nov 1971] 52955/72 Heading B3W Punching apparatus comprises a plate 5, for mounting on a press platen 3, which carries a punch unit for each hole to be punched in annular workpieces 2 and a turntable 7 carrying chucks 22 which are moved through a charging position A, a control position B, punching positions C-H and a discharge position I, being rotated between punching operations. The turntable is rotated incrementally about a boss 6a on rollers 8 by a Maltese cross device in which a roller 10, on a disc 11 itself driven from the press via gears (13), (14), Fig. 6 (not shown), and a spindle 12, engages in slots 9 in the turntable. Locking sectors 17, 18 mounted on meshed spindles 12 and 19 respectively engage in adjacent cutouts 16 at each increment. A spring loaded catch 67 on the plate 5 engages in turn in wire grooves 68 in the turntable 7 to ensure accurate indexing. Each chuck 22 is mounted in a bush 23 rotated by pinion and ring gears 27, 28 as the turntable rotates. An expanding core 29 is spring urged downwardly to tend to expand the chuck 22. At the position A, the base of the cone is aligned with a cam and lever device, driven by the spindle 12, which raises the cone to allow the chuck jaws 22a to retract and to bring cone arms 29a into position to receive a workpiece moved along a passage 42 by a slide 43 driven, against the action of a pneumatic ram (44), Fig. 5, (not shown), by the spindle 19. An extension 48 of the passage 42 guides the workpiece on its travel to position B where it is centered by means of a spring-loaded check cone (69) Fig. 7. A microswitch (not shown) is operated if the cone is not centered. At each punching position C-H a microswitch 37 stops the press if a cone overshoots due to overexpansion of the chuck. Each punch unit comprises a punch and a die carrier, 56, 58 respectively, urged apart by a spring 61 and slidable in radial grooves in a plane 51, guided by a post 52 fixed to the plate 5. The plate 51 is urged towards a stop (55) Fig. 6, by springs 54. As the plate 5 descends the die carrier is moved outwardly by a fixed cam face 60 till the die 57 engages the workpiece, at which point the plate 51 abuts the stop (55). As the plate 5 descends further, a cam face 5a moves the punch carrier inwardly to punch from the workpiece a slug which falls into a shoot 62 reciprocable in a respective passage 63. During punching, the workpiece is braced against a wheel 66 fixed to the plate 51. At the discharge position I, the expander cone 29 is again raised so that the arms 29a lift the punched workpiece from the retracting chuck jaws 22a and present it to a rake-off arm 49 which sweeps it into a discharge passage 50.
