1398418 Conveyers SANKI ENG CO Ltd 27 Sept 1972 [30 Sept 1971] 44637/72 Headings B8A and B8E [Also in Division E1] In an hotel, luggage is recorded and labelled magnetically with automatically readable information at a check-in desk (Fig. 4, not shown) from whence it is conveyed to a lift which delivers the luggage either to each guest's floor, or directly to a space 16 (Fig. 2) in his own bedroom. A conveyer 21g (Fig. 3) leads from the desk to a conveyer 21a which feeds a series of lifts 15. Each lift 15 serves a pair of bedrooms 10 on each floor. Guests themselves travel by lifts 13. Organized parties may have their luggage labelled at an airport, station etc. from whence it may be transported direct to the hotel basement, and may then be circulated on an accumulator conveyer 21c. Guests who wish to leave the hotel with their luggage, may collect it from a carousel conveyer 19. The lifts 15 also carry containers for meals, laundry, and linen. Each lift carriage 32 (Fig. 6A) has a low level rollerway for luggage containers 24, and an upper level rollerway for containers 36 for meals etc. The latter are conveyed out on to a table 41 formed by the top of the respective space 16. Automatic means (not described in detail) prevent lift doors opening to both adjacent bedrooms 10 simultaneously. In a simpler system (Figs. 15 and 16), there is only one lift, and wheeled luggage trolleys are conveyed by this from a basement service area 103, to a similar area provided on each floor. An extending fork member 126a, 126b of the lift carriage can load and unload wheeled containers 45 from and/or to, spaces 124a or 124b. For this purpose, means 125 (Fig. 16) are provided to raise and lower the fork members to assist in the transference of the containers. The spaces 124a and 124b are enclosed by detachable ropes 123a and 123b respectively. These ropes operate switches which prevent operation of the lift if the ropes are not connected.
