Abstract

1397034 Gas discharge lamps THORN ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 19 Nov 1973 [5 July 1973] 32104/73 Heading H1D An ultra-violet emitting mercury vapour discharge lamp has a filling including mercury, magnesium as a halide and an inert gas, the mercury in the envelope amounting to less than 0À5 mg./c.c. of envelope volume. The weight ratio of magnesium to mercury vapour can be within the range 0À002 to 0À1 : 1. The magnesium can be introduced as magnesium metal with mercuric halide. Trace additions of the halides of the following metals can be included: gallium, thallium, aluminium, tin, iron, zinc, yttrium, chromium, bismuth and cadmium. The inert gas can be argon at 20-50 torr. References are made to Specifications 1,360,022 and 1,360,023.
