Abstract

1396877 Barrier walls; sheet piles F IRWIN-CHILDS 27 July 1972 [29 July 1971] 35832/71 Heading E1H A barrier or diaphragm wall, formed by excavating a trendh and casting concrete into the trench one section at a time, a cylindrical pipe 30 delimiting each successive section while the concrete hardens, is reinforced by interconnected sheet piles 21, 25, 26, 27, the connector 22a of the pile 21 nearest the pipe 30 being shielded from the concrete by a U- sectioned sheet pile 23 sealingly engaging the pipe 30 to provide a positive connection with the next section of the wall when the pipe 30 is removed. The pile 23 may be replaced by one of H-section. The trench is preferably filled with bentonite slurry to stabilise the walls whilst excavation takes place.
