Abstract

1396843 Kneading and mixing device WERNER & PFLEIDERER 21 Aug 1973 [1 Sept 1972] 39468/73 Heading B1C A device for kneading and mixing flowable material comprises an elongate shaft 4 which is rotatably mounted in a housing 1 and which has helical conveyor units 3 spaced apart by at least one plain portion 18, mixing means, elements 5, situated adjacent portions 18 and mounted on the housing to be rotatable relative thereto, and drive means .operable independently of the rotation of the shaft to rotate the mixing means. The elements 5 have axles 5a which are connected by links 6 to an adjusting ring 9. The ring is moved by hydraulic cylinders 12. Elements 5 have a curved inner face and each set can be moved between a position giving a minimum resistance to flow, viz as shown at section III-III and a maximum resistance to flow as shown at sections IV-IV. In an alternative embodiment the axles 5a have pinions that are drivingly connected to a ring gear that is driven. by an electric motor. Also one set of elements may be replaced by a single element. The elements may be continuously rotated.
