Abstract

1396404 Guiding traversed strand ZINSERTEXTILMASCHINEN GmbH 2 May 1972 [3 May 1971] 20410/72 Heading D1J Textile strand being traversed onto a package engages groove means in a cylindrical roll the groove means defining crests and troughs, the maximum crest width being no greater than the maximum trough width. Strand is traversed, Fig 1, by means 25 onto package P rotated by grooved roll 14 which has an external helical groove extending with a righthand or left-hand, or a plurality of parallel, annular grooves, or helical grooves of opposite angle at either end with a mid-portion of annular parallel grooves. The grooves may have a triangular, square or sinusoidal crosssectional configuration. Package spindles 30 are linearly movable towards and away from roll 14 on carriages 46, Fig 12. Each carriage is moved by a reversible, variable torque motor 50 via a screw 53 to maintain a desired pressure relationship between the growing package and roll 14, so that package growth results in the motor being stalled. The motion of each carriage is damped by a brake connected with screws 53 and by an adjustable hydraulic shock absorber 75. Cables attached to springs and passing over cams are used to compensate the changing forces acting on the package spindles as they move in an inclined path. The slots through which the spindles project from housing 12 are covered by a belt moving with the spindle. Each spindle comprises a pneumatic brake and an inflatable bladder for securing the package former.
